Born in Osaka in 1941. Worked as a truck driver and boxer before becoming one of Japan's foremost architects. His works include the Water Temple in Awaji Island, Japan; Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Fort Worth, Texas; Siddhartha Children and Women Hospital, Butwal, Nepal; Morimoto restaurant in the Chelsea Market, Manhattan, and a number of residences and rowhouses in Japan.
Sergio Aragonés SP

Sergio Aragonés Domenech is a cartoonist and writer. He has been a driving force behind MAD Magazine since the early 1960s, and has been a contributor to other comic magazines, including Plop! He is the creator of the comic barbarian character Groo the Wanderer, and is the author of a book of cartoons titled Madly Yours. Aragonés is the recipient of a number of awards for cartooning and writing.

Arriola, born in Arizona in 1917, went to work for MGM in the 1930s, and eventually became known for his popular comic strip "Gordo" which he sold to United Features in 1941. He retired from the comic strip in 1985.

Dick DeBartolo is one of the most prolific writers of satire for Mad Magazine. He has appeared in issues dating back to 1966. His compatriots at the magazine include Sergio Aragones, Al Jaffe, Dave Berg and Don Martin. He and Leo Laporte produce a podcast called The Daily Giz Wiz, a daily discussion of technology and gadgets. He also has a periodic "gadget" segment on ABC World News Now.

Jim Dine was born in Cincinnati in 1935. He attended the University of Cincinnati, and moved to New York in 1959. He became involved with what were referred to as "Happenings," sponsored events in which avant garde art or concepts were shown. Dine is associated with the Pop Art movement.

American sculptor best known for her design for the Sacagawea dollar that was put into circulation in 2000. Attended Colorado College and then the Art Students League in New York City. American artist, born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1929. Moved to New York City as a child. Attended Yale University, and later the Art Institute of Chicago. In New York he became involved with the avant garde artists of the 1960s and created a number of "Happenings," which combined art with theater. In 1961 he opened a a shop called "The Store." He is known for his huge, overblown "soft" sculptures of everyday objects, and his works include Giant Clothespin, in Philadelphia, and Spoonbridge and Cherry, in Minneapolis.

Leni Riefenstahl SP

Berta "Leni" Riefenstahl (1902-2003) was a famous and immensely popular German actress, director and filmmaker. Born in Berlin. Began her acreer as a dancer. She heard Adolf Hitler speak at a rally in the 1930s, and was hired by him to promote the message of the Nazi regime. This she did through her propoganda films. Her film Triumph of Wills is still viewed as a cinematic masterpiece. After WWII she spent time in a French detention camp. Upon release she devoted the rest of her life to photography and filming marine life.

Marco Sassone was born in Campi Bisenzio, in 1942. He moved with his family to Florence in 1954, and there he met painters Ottone Rosai and Ugo Maturo, who encouraged him to follow his interest in art. He attended the Istituto Galileo Galilei. At the age of 25 he was selected to exhibit at Lo Sprone Cultural Center in Florence, Italy. He settled in California in the 1960s and bcame a regular exhibitor at the Festival of the Arts at Laguna Beach. He has received the Order to the Merit of the Italian Republic, and a gold medal from the Italian Academy of Arts.

British cartoonist, born in 1920 in Cambridge. Went to work or the Cambridge Daily News, and began a series of 195 weekly cartoons. During WWII, Searle was taken prisoner of war in Singapore. He was on the foced labor detail that built the railway from Ban Pong to Burma. He was released at the end of the war. He has illustrated books, but his cartoons were his primary focus. He has worked for Punch Magazine, Holiday Magazine, and opened his own publishing company, Perpetua Books. He has also illustrated for films, TV Guide, and The New Yorker Magazine.

American cartoonist, born in 1948. Attended St. Paul's School and Yale University. Is best known for his daily comic strip Doonesbury, which issyndicated in 1,400 newspapers around the world. Trudeau is the first cartoonist to win a Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning. He is married to TV newswoman Jane Pauley.
