Sir James Hamilton, 5th Duke of Abercorn was born on 4 July 1934. He is the son of Sir James Edward Hamilton, 4th Duke of Abercorn and Lady Mary Katherine Crichton. He succeeded to the title of 5th Duke of Abercorn on 4 June 1979. He succeeded to the title of 7th Viscount Hamilton on 4 June 1979. He succeeded to the title of 14th Earl Abercorn in June, 1979.

Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan, the son of Sir Sultan Mohamed Shah, Aga Khan III, the Imam, leader of the Ismaili Shia Muslims. The family bloodline can be traced back to the Prophet. He has worked 40 years for the United Nations, twelve of them as High Commissioner for Refugees. His brother, Prince Aly Khan, gained notoriety when he married the actress Rita Hayworth, a union that was short-lived. Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan has acquired a vast collection of Islamic art, paintings, drawings and manuscripts from Turkey, Iran and India. He and his family reside in the south of France.

These photographs were among a series of coronation pictures taken by the royal photographer William Downey, who was known as "the Queen's photographer." He set up one of the first studios in London in the mid 1850s, and was soon engaged by members of the royal family to take not only official portraits, but informal pictures, as well. He also photographed the famous and infamous of his day, including Sarah Bernhardt and Oscar Wilde.

John Jacob Astor, 3rd Baron Astor of Hever, born 1946. The son of Gavin Astor and Lady Irene Violet Freesia Janet Augusta Haig. Married first to Fiona Lennox Harvey, divorced in 1990. He then married Elizabeth Mackintosh, the daughter of John Macintosh, 2nd Viscount Macintosh of Halifax. John Jacob Astor succeeded to the title of Baron Astor of Hever, Hever Castle, in 1984. He is a descendant of John Jacob Astor I, who started the family fortune as a fur trapper and trader. The Astors were at the fore front of New York society in the Gilded Age, and Baron Astor is of the group that emigrated from the United States to England around the turn of the century.

John Colum Crichton-Stuart, the 7th Marquess of Bute, was born in 1958, and was titled the Earl of Dumfries. He is the son of John Stuart and Beatrice Weld-Forester. In 1984 he married Carolyn Waddell. They were divorced in 1993. His ancestor, John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute (1713-1792) was a friend of the Prince of Wales, a relationship that laid the foundations for the great Bute fortune. He later helped to plan the now-famous Kew Gardens.

The 7th Earl of Carnarvon, Henry George Molyneux Herbert, was born in 1924. He is the son of Henry George Herbert and Anne Wendell. His grandfather, the 5th Earl of Carnarvon, was instrumental in the discovery of the famous tomb of King Tutankhamun, financing Howard Carter and his crew for years before the important find in 1922. The deaths, in rapid succession, of many of the participants, including the 5th Earl in 1923, gave rise to the rumor of a curse, which persists to this day.

Duchess of Devonshire SP

Deborah Freeman-Mitford Cavendish is the last of the famous Mitford sisters and the widow of Andrew Cavendish, 11th Duke of Devonshire. The Mitfords were an aristocratic British family who achieved contemporary notoriety for their controversial and stylish lives as young people, and later for their very public political divisions between communist and fascist. Of the six daughters, two (Nancy and Jessica) were well-known authors, and two others married nephews of the Prime Ministers Winston Churchill and Harold Macmillan. One sister, The Hon. Unity Mitford, was famous for her friendship with Hitler, and shot herself at the outbreak of WWII, surviving until 1948. The Dowager Duchess has been a dutiful caretaker of the family estate, Chatsworth, one of Great Britain's great houses now open to the public, and has written a number of books about it. She also supervised the development of the nearby Cavendish Hotel and the Devonshire Arms Hotel at Bolton Abbey. She is Dame Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, and her titles include The Lady Andrew Cavendish and Marchioness of Hartington.

Andrew Duff-Gordon's famous ancestors were Sir Cosmo Duff-Gordon and his wife Lucy Wallace. They were among the survivors of the sinking of the Titanic. Sir Cosmo was a British fencing champion and represented his country in the Olympics of 1908. Lady Duff-Gordon gained notoriety for designing racy lady's undergarments, which became the rage of the upper class of England. After the Titanic sinking, the Duff-Gordons faced an inquiry in which they were accused of bribery to be able to board a lifeboat together. The hearing resulted in an acquittal of charges. Sir Cosmo died in 1931. Lady Duff-Gordon died in 1935.

She was aboard the boat when it was blown up off the coast of Sligo, killing her father and her son, Nicholas, and her mother-in-law, the Dowager Baroness Brabourne. His father, Captain George Henry Hubert Lascelles, 7th Earl of Harewood, was born in 1923, and is the son of Henry Lascalles and Victoria Alexandra Alice Mary Windsor, Princess Royal of the United Kingdom. A member of the Strathmore clan was Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (1900-2002) who was to become Queen of England through her marriage to George VI. They were the parents of Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret.

Sir Harry assumed the name of Verney in compliance with the will of Mary Verney, Baroness Fermanagh, who died a spinster, leaving the paternal estates that ultimately came into possession of Sir Harry Calvert. Sir Harry entered the British House of Commons for Buckingham in 1832.

He is a decorated WWII veteran, and a Member of the British Empire. He holds the titles of Marquess of Wellington, 8th Baron Douro of Wellesley, 8th Viscount Wellington of Talavera and Wellington, and was invested as an Officer, Legion of Honour French. The 1st Duke of Wellington, The Most Noble Arthur Wellesley (1769-1852) was one of Britain's most revered military heroes.

Sir Francis David Charteris, 12th Earl of Wemyss was born on 19 January 1912. He is the son of Hugo Francis Charteris, Lord Elcho and Lady Violet Catherine Manners. He married Mavis Lynette Gordon Murray, daughter of Edwin Edward Murray, on 24 February 1940. He married Shelagh Kathleen Thrift, daughter of Ernest Thrift, on 29 April 1995. Sir Francis and Mavis had four children.

Philip Brian Cecil Moore, born in 1921, was educated at Cheltenham and Brasenose College, Oxford and fought as a Bomber during World War II. Moore was then Private Secretary from 1957 to 1958, to the 10th Earl of Selkirk in the latter's capacity as First Lord of the Admiralty. On his retirement in 1986, he was created Baron Moore of Wolvercote. The baron currently lives at Hampton Court Palace.

Every newspaper agency in England and in Europe produced printed memorabilia relating to the Queen's coronation in 1953. This is from the Illustrated News.
Elizabeth II Coronation Program The official program for the Coronation of Elizabeth II was published by the multitude, and was among a huge amount of printed material relating to the event. Elizabeth was crowned in 1953 after the death of her father, George VI, a year earlier. Months of preparation went into the ceremony, which was televised internationally. An estimated 3 million people lined the streets of London to honor their new Queen.
George V Silver Jubilee Program George V ascended to the throne upon the death of Edward VII in 1910. He and his queen, Mary of Teck saw their Silver Jubilee in 1935, which was celebrated worldwide. This official book contains programs and schedules of the events in London, as well as pictures of the King and Queen, and other members of the royal family. George V died in 1936.
George VI Coronation Program George VI ascended to the throne upon the abdication of his brother EdwardVIII, who had given up the British throne to marry Wallis Simpson, an American dicorcee. This program features photographs of the King and his queen, Elizabeth, and family photographs including those of the Princesses Margaret and Elizabeth, future queen of England.
